Eden Arts Art Schools Award Judges Announced

PRESS RELEASE
Eden Arts Art Schools Award Judges Announced
THURSDAY 19 JULY 2018 Awards Ceremony

Now in its eighth year, the Eden Arts Art Schools Award offers a total of up to $8,500 in prize money to art school students. Launched by the Eden Arts Trust in 2011, this award brings together Central Auckland's four major art institutions: AUT, Elam, Unitec and Whitecliffe.

Five top student entries will be selected by each school and judged by a team of independent judges. Eden Arts is pleased to announce this year’s judging panel – artists Denys Watkins and Peata Larkin, and Te Tuhi Artistic Director Gabriela Salgado.

The Award is open to full-time undergraduates, with the Overall Winner receiving $5,000 and three Highly Commended students receiving $1,000 each. There is also a discretionary Board’s Choice award worth $500.

This year the host institution is AUT University’s School of Art & Design. The announcement of winners will be made at an award evening Thursday 19 July (invitation event). The exhibition is then open for public viewing from Friday 20 July to Friday 3 August in ST PAUL St Gallery, 40 St Paul St, Auckland City.

The Eden Arts Community Arts Trust was formed over 30 years ago for the purpose of supporting the arts in the wider Mt Eden area. Eden Arts’ flagship event is the annual Artists in Eden Day in March. Proceeds fund an annual calendar of events including prize money for the above award as well as the long-established Young Artists Awards, the Mt Eden Chamber Music Festival and the new Karekare artist residency launched in 2018.
