NZ Retro Music Chart Radio Show Gaining Momentum

LOCAL NEW ZEALAND RETRO MUSIC CHART RADIO SHOW GAINING MOMENTUM

It's heard on 16 great local radio stations around New Zealand and growing!

It showcases the New Zealand music scene and a slice of Kiwi life back in the 1970's & 1980's.

Think 'American Top 40' with Casey Kasem - but with a Kiwi slant.

It's The New Zealand Retro Weekly Top 40 Countdown!

Each week host Rob Walker takes a look back through the New Zealand singles and album charts from a different year between 1975 & 1989 and presents the top 40 charts as they were, here in New Zealand for the corresponding weekend. One week it's 1985, then the following week it's back to 1977, then it's 1982, then 1989, then 1979, and --- well you get the idea.

But unlike the 'American Top 40' countdown or even the 'Rick Dees Weekly Top 40' you will hear the LOCAL music from New Zealand artists, and also from those across the ditch over in Australia, that made it onto the New Zealand music charts.

So you will here the hits from the well known New Zealand acts like : Dragon, now SIR John Rowles, Dave Dobbyn, Split Enz, The Crocodiles, Sharon O'Neill and The Mockers, but also from some of the lesser known bands like : Pop Mechanics, Body Electric, Spelling Mistakes and even Mother Goose.

It's what Kiwis heard on AM radio back in the 1970's or 1980's on stations like 1ZB, 1ZM and Radio Hauraki in Auckland, 1ZH and Radio Waikato in Hamilton, 1XX in Whakatane, 2ZG in Gisborne, 2ZC Bay City Radio Hawke's Bay, 2ZA and 2XS in Palmerston North, 2XX on the Kapiti Coast, 2ZB, 2ZM and Radio Windy in Wellington, 2ZN and Fireshire Radio in Nelson, 3ZB, 3ZM and Radio Avon in Christchurch, 4ZB, 4XO and 4XD in Dunedin and also 4ZA and Fouveax Radio in Invercargill. The good ol' days of New Zealand radio when most towns had their own local station - whether it was a government station of Radio New Zealand and/or a private station.

It also reflects what we bought in the record stores - remember records and even cassettes? No, well then ask your grandparents. The show also looks back at what we paid for various things like cars, food, household items and clothes, as well as what we watched on the TV - in the days of just 2 channels, and at the movies, and it has a sprinkling of moments with historic news & events that helped shapped our country over the years featured each week.
