200 Teams of Young Adventurers Get2Go

27 July 2018

Close to 200 teams of keen secondary school students from all over New Zealand have signed up for the ultimate adventure racing event: The Torpedo7 Junior Get2Go Challenge.

A cross between the Amazing Race, Treasure Island and Survivor for year 9s and 10s, the first of 12 regional Torpedo7 Junior Get2Go challenges gets underway in Northland next week. Teams of eight represent their school in one of four categories - All Girls, All Boys, Mixed and Mixed Premier (4 girls/4boys) – in a series of 12 regional competitions culminating in a Grand Final.

“The Torpedo7 Junior Get2Go Challenge is a super fun multisport event designed to encourage more young people to get involved in outdoor pursuits,” says Event Manager Darren Ashmore. “It’s called a challenge for a reason as teams test their skills across a wide range of activities run in four individual 60-minute races held across one single day.”

“In one challenge they might be rock climbing and the next orienteering, kayaking or mountain biking,” he said. Throw in a spot of problem solving and the competition really heats up.”

Now in its 13th year, Get2Go is organised by Hillary Outdoors and supported by sports clubs and volunteer organisations right across New Zealand.

Entry registrations are up 10% on last year and the Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Wellington, Dunedin events are already full and waitlisted, with others filling up fast.

The national Torpedo7 Junior Get2Go Grand Final will be held at the Hillary Outdoors marine base on Great Barrier Island in December where the top team in the Mixed Premier category from each event is invited to represent their region.
