SIX60 Make History

SIX60 Make History
Becoming the First New Zealand Band to Sell Out Western Springs Stadium

16 September, 2018- Eccles Entertainment announces that SIX60’s ground-breaking concert on 23 February has sold out. The audience of 50,000 means that this is the biggest ever headline show by a Kiwi act, at the iconic Western Springs Stadium.

The audience at New Zealand’s biggest stadium is five times the size of SIX60’s previous sell-out shows at Auckland’s Villa Maria Winery, and bigger than the band’s record-breaking 40,000 ticket tour, last summer.

SIX60 frontman Matiu Walters says the decision to play Western Springs came out of the band wanting to do something different and something bold, and change things up from previous concerts.

"Our New Zealand fans have always felt like the sixth member of the band. They follow us around the world and spread our music everywhere they go. When we put on a show at home, it’s always with the thought of creating an incredible collective experience.

“With the tour last year selling out, and Villa Maria selling out so quickly and being such an amazing night the fans really forced us to ask what’s next. How do we create the most incredible SIX60 experience?

“Western Springs - the idea of 50,000 Kiwis together creating such a historical moment - just felt like it had to happen. It’s gonna be an honour for me to be part of the 50,000 and that we can say we sold out Western Springs."

“Many aspects of this are overwhelming, not just for New Zealand music but for a band dedicated to their craft and to their fans,” says Promoter Brent Eccles.

“SIX60 are truly a band of the people…a lot of people and we should all feel so proud of them! It’s a shit hot result!”

SIX60 are firmly cemented as New Zealand’s biggest band with the sell-out stadium show the most recent in an exceptional run of accolades. Their triple platinum debut album in 2011 earned the band six New Zealand Music Awards. Currently, their most recent EP tops the NZ Album Charts after 42 weeks, closely followed by the bands 2015 album which sits at #2 after an unbroken 184 weeks in the charts. There’s no other act like SIX60.

Howard Davis: The Helicopter View From Space Yoga Studio

Written in Sanskrit at some point between the second century BCE and the fourth century CE, Patanjali's classic definition of the purpose of yoga has been translated in a number of different ways, but they all boil down to essentially the same message - the calming or quieting of “mental fluctuations.” More>>

Joseph Cederwall Review: NZSO Plays Bach And Ellington

The NZSO’s Shed Series returned for 2019 with the aptly titled REBIRTH at Shed 6. This theme dealt with the way in which music constantly evolves and changes, with styles and musical periods reborn in completely new and different ways. More>>

Howard Davis Review: Voulez-Vous Couchez Avec Moi? - C'est Chic, Ça Colette!

Starring the ravishingly vibrant Keira Knightley in the title role, Colette is a fairly pedestrian paint-by numbers biopic - which is a little disappointing, given that its cross-dressing and pansexual protagonist lead anything but a dull life. More>>
