Kiwi kids inspired by Sir Peter Blake

Kiwi kids inspired by Sir Peter Blake through new children’s book

MEDIA RELEASE
27 September 2018

The Sir Peter Blake Trust has collaborated with Penguin Random House New Zealand to release a pictorial children’s book about the life of Sir Peter Blake, allowing a new generation of Kiwi kids to learn about one of New Zealand’s most celebrated ocean heroes.

Hero of the Sea – Sir Peter Blake’s mighty ocean quests is the fourth story in a best-selling series of children’s books by author David Hill and illustrator Phoebe Morris.

Sir Peter Blake Trust CEO, James Gibson, says the book tells the story to young New Zealanders about Sir Peter’s adventurous life and his love for the environment. “Many of us who remember Sir Peter have memories of a great yachtsman and leader. However, he was also a passionate and relentless champion of the environment.

“This book captures his adventures, sailing campaigns and love for the environment and our oceans in an inspiring and engaging biographical book for young readers.”

The book will be officially launched at a special event at the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron on 29 September between 2 – 5pm, where members of the public are all welcome to attend. Children will have the opportunity to get their purchased copies of the book signed by the author and illustrator.

Hero of the Sea – Sir Peter Blake’s mighty ocean quests goes on sale nationwide from Monday 1 October at booksellers throughout New Zealand for $25 each.

Other non-fiction biographies in this Puffin series of books about famous New Zealanders are those of Sir Edmund Hillary, Jean Batten and Burt Munro.
