2018 Black Hawk National Dog Show draws great entry
3 October 2018
Dogs New Zealand (Dogs NZ) President,
Nigel Trainor, is absolutely delighted with the number of
entries received for its annual National Dog Show. The show
is the club’s premier event and is being held the Dogs NZ
Wellington Exhibition Centre from tomorrow, Thursday 4th
October through to Saturday 6th October. Trainor said “We
will have over 1,000 dogs representing over 120 breeds on
show for the public and are delighted to have attracted
world class judges from Argentina, Japan and Belgium to
officiate. We have also adopted the theme of Dogs, Dogs,
Dogs for the show to promote many of our activities and
programmes based on active, healthy and well-mannered
dogs”.
The highlight of the three day show will clearly be the awarding of Best in Show on the Saturday and a range of activities will be staged leading into the award commencing at 1 pm. These will include the Junior Dog Handler Final with the successful handler winning a trip to compete at Crufts in Birmingham, England in 2019.
In addition at a time when dog attacks have been widely publicized NZKC’s Canine Good Citizen™ will be demonstrated live. This will allow the public at general to sight how a well-trained dog (and owner) behave and interact.
Canine Good Citizen™ is a certification programme where Dogs NZ tests dogs in simulated everyday situations in a relaxed atmosphere. It identifies and rewards dogs that have the training and demeanour to be reliable family members as well as good-standing community members. It is publically open to all purebred and crossbred dogs.
Dogs NZ stages an annual Canine Heroes competition across two categories and their stories will be told and awards made during Saturday’s highlight’s package.
Canine Heroes competition– heroes come in all shapes and sizes, and every year Dogs NZ is searching for stories to find New Zealand’s very own Canine Heroes. It is looking for dogs who make a difference – and that can be anything from saving a life to being someone’s most loyal companion. Every dog story counts. The competition is open to the public at large and their dog/s.
