The French Film Festival is back in 2019

The Penthouse Cinema, in conjunction with the Alliance Française and the French Embassy, is pleased to announce that the French Film Festival will return to the big screen in 2019.

The French Film Festival, now in its 13th year, is the second-largest film festival in New Zealand. The festival will screen in major cities and selected regional centres in March 2019.

“We have a strong French community in New Zealand and the French Film Festival is a highlight of the cultural year, keenly anticipated by this community and film-goers generally,” said Alliance Française Wellington President, Adrienne Bushell. “We’re pleased, as a leading provider of French language learning opportunities, to be part of the consortium behind the 2019 Festival.”

The recently-arrived French Ambassador to New Zealand, Mme Sylvaine Carta Le-Vert, said she was pleased and proud to be supporting next year’s French Film Festival. “I look forward to opening and taking part in this unique celebration of French cinema.”

Planning is well-advanced for the sourcing and programming of a fortnight of French films, with tickets going on sale in mid-January 2019.

In Wellington, the French Film Festival returns to the Penthouse Cinema in Brooklyn, with other screenings at the Lighthouse Cinema in Petone.

More details will be announced in the coming months.
