Health Minister to launch community exhibition and poetry book

Friday 15 February 2019, 5:00pm at the Community Gallery, 20 Princes Street, Dunedin

Health Minister and local MP David Clark will formally open Artsenta’s annual exhibition which runs from 16-27 February 2019.

Artsenta presents the work of over 30 artists in a variety of mediums, including paintings, drawings, prints, sculpture, craft, ceramic and mixed media works.

‘A Scattering of Words’, a compilation of poetry, will also be launched at the exhibition. This features the work of 15 writers, many from Artsenta’s creative writing group.

“The exhibition is a significant event for the many artists involved,” said Artsenta director Paul Smith. “Some have never exhibited before while others are quite experienced artists. But all are very keen to share their work with a wider audience.”

“Launching a book of poetry this year is also an exciting outcome for those involved and shows the diversity of activity undertaken at Artsenta. Like the exhibition it is a celebration of the creative talent that exists in the community at a real grassroots level.”

“It’s fantastic to have the Minister of Health launching our artist’s work and I think important that he sees the role that creativity and community based services have in supporting people through life’s challenges.”

Artsenta is an award winning community based art studio for people who use mental health and addiction services. Artsenta is a project of the Creative Arts Trust, a non-profit organisation funded by the Southern District Health Board and Ministry of Social Development.

EXHIBITION OPENING HOURS

10am-4pm Mon-Sat, Wednesdays till 6pm, 16-27 February 2019
