UCOL Fashion student shows at Westfield Pasifika

UCOL Fashion student shows at Westfield Pasifika

Designs by UCOL second year Bachelor of Fashion student Laura Volp are featuring in a fashion extravaganza in Auckland – this year’s Westfield Best of Style Pasifika NZ 2011 show.

Laura was selected as a finalist in the Westfield Style Pasifika Awards which gives her a prized place in the two night gala show (Tuesday and Wednesday night). The winners have already been announced.

Designs by fellow student Emma Hughes were also selected as part of an exhibition that features at the Westfield shopping mall.

The Westfield Style Pasifika is the world’s largest indigenous fashion event. This year’s show is spread over two nights and is bigger than ever, to coincide with the Rugby World Cup. The finalists’ designs will be shoulder to shoulder with rugby inspired one-off collections created by celebrated New Zealand designers and top international designers from nations taking part in the Rugby World Cup.

This year’s Westfield Style Pasifika Awards had three categories: Traditionally Inspired, Colonial Pasifika 3 Piece Collection, and Multicultural Pasifika Style.

Programme Leader for the UCOL School of Fashion, Amanda Rayner, says Laura’s is a high achievement and brings a special honour, with the opportunity to show her designs alongside the work of leading New Zealand and international d designers. “She has the chance to experience the big buzz that surrounds a show of this magnitude and calibre,” she says. “That is a wonderful experience for a fashion student. We are very proud.”
