Raglan Museum Community Open Day

Raglan Museum Community Open Day

10.00am to 4pm, Saturday 12th November
Raglan Museum and i-SITE
15 Wainui Road, Raglan (Opposite Stewart St)
Entry free Saturday only

The Raglan & District Museum Society is holding a community open day on Saturday 12th November to let the Raglan Whaingaroa Community have a look inside the new Raglan Museum for the first time. The first exhibition in the museum is the THEN collection of heritage photos of Raglan Whaingaroa from the museum's collection and other sources such as the Auckland Art Gallery. Also on display will be the 100-year-old Raglan Manual Telephone Exchange used to provide phone service until the 1970s and the T. B. Hill Apothecary collection of old medical and pharmacy items. The Museum Society says it will be setting up other exhibitions progressively starting with the Wiremu Neera Te Awaitaia display.

Opening the museum to the public had been waiting on Waikato District Council staff to install a security camera system in the building. This work was completed on Friday for the ground floor allowing Museum Society members to begin work setting up exhibits.

Preceding the community open day at 7am there will be a blessing and karakia by Ngati Maahanga kaumatua acknowledging the Taonga coming into the museum. The community is also invited to this blessing.

'This week Museum Society President, Patrick Day, was delighted to welcome members to their regular monthly meeting, the first to be held in the new building, which he described as a wonderful asset for Raglan.'
