NZ Post helps deliver a Christmas tradition for Tokelau

New Zealand Post helps deliver a Christmas tradition for the people of Tokelau

New Zealand Post is set to solidify its place as one of the leading producers of stamps in the southern hemisphere, with the release of a set of four Christmas stamps for the people of Tokelau.

In September this year New Zealand Post entered into a five year contract to design, produce and distribute stamps for the government of Tokelau.

The Christmas stamps and an accompanying First Day Cover which go on sale today are the first fruits of this new alliance.

“New Zealand Post is viewed as one of the leading postal administrators in the world, with extensive capabilities. We also have a successful track record in utilising stamps to represent our nation’s unique culture, heritage and national identity,” Ivor Masters, Head of New Zealand Post’s stamps business says.

“As well as producing all of the current official New Zealand postage stamps, two years ago we won an international tender to design, produce and distribute stamps for the island nation of Niue.

“Tokelau is the latest place to make use of our expertise in the production and delivery of stamps, and we welcome them to our extended family.

“We’re delighted to be working with the people of Tokelau, given the incredibly close relationship between our two countries and the strong Tokelauan community in New Zealand..

“In this instance we’re starting with something quite traditional – a set of four Christmas stamps for Tokelau - featuring bold colours and clear designs which represent traditional Christmas decorations like bells and golden balls.

“They come in four denominations – 40c, 45c, $1.40 and $2.00 – and include the Tokelau phrase for Merry Christmas – which is Manuia te Kilihimahi.

“We’re really pleased to be working with Tokelau, and look forward to many successful stamp releases over the next five years,” Ivor Masters said.

The new Tokelau Christmas 2011 stamp range go on sale today - Wednesday 16 November - and can be ordered from http://www.nzpost.co.nz/stamps or by phoning 0800 STAMPS (782 677).
