MEDIA RELEASE

Auckland to celebrate the Year of Dragon

Auckland Chinese Community Centre is proud to be hosting the annual Chinese New Year celebration at ASB Showgrounds on 21 January 2012. The Festival has been around for more than 20 years, and is a popular summer event with attendance by 20,000 or more.

“We are expecting a larger crowd this year,” says Mr Arthur Loo, chairman of Auckland Chinese Community Centre. “The Dragon is an auspicious and very important symbol for Chinese, and the Year of Dragon is going to be a year that allows us to overcome challenges.”

“We are delighted to have an acrobatic, shadow puppet and musical troupe from Gansu, China this year,” Loo continues. “As usual the day will be filled with Chinese delicacies, foodstuffs, arts and crafts and cultural performances. “

“We are also delighted to have the continue support from our sponsors, ANZ National Bank, SKYCITY Auckland, Multi-Media Solutions, Cathay Pacific, Chinese Poll Tax Heritage Trust, Telecom Easy Call and many others. Cathay Pacific will provide return tickets to China and NZ Post will provide five 2012 Year of the Dragon presentation packs which will be prizes for a lucky draw.” Loo says.

“We are pleased to partner with Chinese media, TV33 this year,” says Mr Kai Luey, Event Organiser. “This helps us to raise our profile to the Chinese community, in addition to the long term partnerships with ethnic media such as Chinese Express, Mandarin Pages, the United Chinese Press, Skykiwi.com, ChineseTown.co.nz and NZClouds.com”
