Tomorrow night Campbell Live examines the extraordinary and unprecedented police raid on the Dotcom mansion. 76 police officers, many armed with automatic weapons and pistols, including members of the elite Special Tactics Group, to arrest a man charged with copyright offences. Kim Dotcom himself swears he would have cooperated fully had just one police officer with an arrest warrant turned up.

Campbell Live relives the morning of January 20th, when the police raid took place. And to do so, the program has gained exclusive television access to the Dotcom Mansion, including the so-called “red room” or “panic room” where Kim Dotcom himself was finally arrested.

The head of security for Kim Dotcom describes in detail what occurred. Two helicopters arriving, police officers with automatic weapons kicking down doors, including in the children’s quarters where guns were pointed at terrified nannies, and the incredible scenes that unfolded as police officers tried to find the “panic room” containing Dotcom himself.

Wayne Tempero told Campbell Live, “doors that weren’t even locked were being smashed open, there were police officers with sledge hammers and even a circular saw, and there were guns everywhere. The force was incredible. But had they simply asked us we would have opened the door to any room they wanted to enter.”

So, was it fair enough or over the top? Why did police believe so much force was required? And what did happen inside the mansion and its “panic room”?

For the first time on television, anywhere in the world, exactly what took place inside the Dotcom mansion, when 76 police officers came to arrest Kim Dotcom.

Campbell Live, weeknights at 7pm on TV3.
