Funding Available for Creative Communities

Communities and individuals throughout Auckland are being encouraged to apply for the latest funding round for the Creative Communities Scheme.

The grant helps local communities create and present art projects or events that support diversity, young people, and wider community involvement.

“We’ve had a lot of amazing initiatives receive funding through the scheme,” says Auckland Council Manager Arts and Culture Central John Daly-Peoples.

“Creative Communities’ projects are incredibly popular, like the Art in the Dark festival which attracted over 30,000 people to Western Park in Ponsonby.

“Others, such as the Disability Arts Festival, have made a real difference in people’s lives.”

Creative Communities’ grants are funded by Creative New Zealand and administered locally by Auckland Council.

“We would really like to see new applicants from Auckland’s large and diverse ethnic communities, as well as more applications from young people,” says John.

Applications for the grant close on 24 February. Information, including multi-lingual factsheets can be found on Auckland Council’s website; keyword – Creative Communities.

Applications must meet one or more of the following funding criteria:

Diversity - The project supports the diverse arts and cultural traditions of local communities, enriching and promoting their uniqueness and cultural diversity.

Young people - The project enables and encourages young people (under 18 years) to engage with and actively participate in the arts.

Broad community involvement - The project creates opportunities for local communities to engage with and participate in arts activities
