Property tycoon to speak in Hastings

Renowned entrepreneur and speaker extraordinaire Sir Bob Jones, will be hosted by the Hastings District Friends of the Libraries next month.

The property tycoon will speak on the topic “What books mean to me – Sir Bob Jones on Books” at the Hastings War Memorial Library on March 14th.

District Libraries Manager Paula Murdoch says “Despite predictions of its demise, the book remains as popular as ever for much of our community and Sir Bob is guaranteed to pack a mean punch on the topic.”

“While making his money from property investment, Sir Bob Jones is a writer, a former politician and a keen boxing supporter. He is reported to own a library of some 20,000 books, which shows a love of books that many might not suspect,” Paula Murdoch says.

“In fact, he is a great believer in reading, packing in three newspapers each day, five magazines on average a week and 110 books each year. His views on books and their place in the 21st century will be extremely interesting.”

Friends of the Libraries President, Shirley Wilson says “It is very pleasing to be able to bring a person of Sir Bob Jones’ stature to Hastings. He is outspoken and is well known for having controversial views on many topics, including cellphones, boxing and our political structure.”

Sir Bob Jones will speak at the Hastings War Memorial Library on Wednesday, March 14th. Doors open at 6.30pm and the talk begins at 7pm. Seats are limited and the tickets cost $10, with the proceeds going to help Friends of the Library support their projects.
