TrustPower Timaru District Community Awards Open to All

March 12th, 2012

Community Awards Open to All

Entries for the TrustPower Timaru District Community Awards opened today (12 March), giving Timaru residents the opportunity to get involved and recognise the dedication of their voluntary groups.

The Awards, which are run in conjunction with the Timaru District Council, are open to all voluntary groups and organisations working to make Timaru a better place to live.

TrustPower Community Relations Representative Jess Somerville encourages everyone to get involved in the Awards.

“Timaru is a community-minded town with a great number of voluntary groups and organisations. Whether you have used their services, heard about their great work through another or are part of the group yourself - help give them the recognition they deserve by entering them in the Community Awards,” says Miss Somerville.

“This is the once-a-year chance residents have to show their appreciation for the thousands of hours volunteers dedicate to this community. Entering a group for the TrustPower Community Awards will take just two minutes of your time, but will be an enormous boost for the group you are recognising,” she said.

Timaru Mayor Janie Annear believes that the Awards are a perfect opportunity to recognise the hard work of the region’s volunteers.

“They are the treasures of our community and are priceless beyond measure,” says Mrs Annear.

Last year 30 groups were entered for the TrustPower Timaru District Community Awards, and the Supreme Winner was the Caroline Bay Association who will be representing the Timaru district at the National Community Awards later this month.
