The search is out for the ultimate haka video and Haka International is willing to give away lots of prizes and pay $2500 to find it.
Get on the HAKA waka is a video contest, where people can upload their haka videos to enter. Haka International is in search for the ultimate haka video and they are desperate to find it. The competition runs for just over 8 weeks.
The contest will see the final best 10 haka videos go into a ‘haka-off’ show down, where the public will decide, by view counts, who will win the ultimate haka video. Kiri Dell director of Haka International says “I wanted to launch a campaign that was going to promote Maori culture and be alot of fun, I mean who doesn’t like to watch a good haka?” Other Maori businesses are on board, such as Tohu Wines, Native for Men and Te Pono, who are donating prizes towards the ‘Get on the HAKA waka’ campaign. “While everyone won’t with the $2500, there are lots of other prizes to be won.”
The organisers are hoping all types of haka videos will be entered; old & young, traditional and contemporary, male and female, serious and funny, professional and amateur, groups and individuals, the competition is wide open.
Haka International , a haka performance group specialising in performances for international audiences, saw there was a strong public appetite for haka videos , when last year, flash mob haka videos went viral, causing a You Tube sensation. The views went into the millions.
People are encouraged to get their videos in early, as public views will count towards their overall score. Some videos have already been uploaded and will go live on 25th March. Uploading for ‘Get on the HAKA waka’ ends on May 25th.
