Exciting auction ramp-up for ukuleles signed by international celebrities!

“The Junior Lyric Comp”

With LESS THAN FOUR DAYS to go, over $5000 in bids have been received on Trade Me for ukuleles signed by international stars Green Day, Flight of the Conchords, Ozzy Osbourne, Rod Stewart, Dan Aykroyd, Barry Gibb, Sam Neill/Mike Chunn/Tim Finn and others.

The items have attracted a lot of interest with almost 600 bids being placed since the auctions went live on Wednesday, 7 November. Feedback is very positive and there is certainly an exciting buzz in the air! The auctions close at 9pm on Monday, 19 November.

Play it Strange Trust and online charitable trust Social Angels* are running the auctions to help raise money needed to fund lyric writing workshops in at least 80 low decile primary schools, as part of the Junior Lyric Comp. Annah Mac and other Kiwi songwriters and musicians will lead the workshops and encourage children to be bold and creative music makers.

Play It Strange are now accepting applications from schools who would like to participate. The more money raised, the more primary schools and children these workshops can reach!

Mike Chunn, CEO of the Play It Strange Trust says: “The government’s focus on literacy brings an important purpose to this programme. By combining language with imagination and in the arena of song; young students are empowered and excited by the end result being more than just lines of words on a page”.
