Kiwis are encouraged to put on their walking shoes and get along to three exciting locations in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch to raise money for Kiwi kids, as the annual FYD Big Walk returns for 2013.

For the first time in the history of FYD’s Big Walk, Auckland walkers will test their skills and walk AJ Hackett’s legendary Auckland Bridge Climb (limited 125 spaces). Wellington walkers will once again take on their choice of a 2km, 5km or 10km walk on the glorious Zealandia track and Christchurch walkers will choose from a 2km, 4km or 10km walk and family fun day in Kyle Park (Hornby).

In addition to the three walks, this year FYD are encouraging people to get involved by creating their own event in the month of April for their school, workplace, sports team or just for themselves. Participants will be set up with a fundraising page and all the tips needed to make their event a success. These events can be anything from a run to a skydive, it is just about setting yourself an active challenge and having fun with family and friends.

The annual event run by FYD is aimed at raising awareness and money for FYD and the work it does with young Kiwis across New Zealand.

About FYD:

The Foundation for Youth Development (FYD) is a child and youth charity founded by Graeme Dingle and Jo-anne Wilkinson in 1995 as the Project K Trust. FYD is now a leader in the field of child and youth development, running several successful proven programmes – Kiwi Can, Stars and Project K – across New Zealand and MYND in Auckland.

These programmes use elements of the great outdoors, inspirational classroom leaders and world-class mentors to help kids, from age 5 to 18, keep on track, develop confidence and self-belief, set goals for the future, and contribute positively to society.

With New Zealand’s stunning outdoors and close-knit communities as the backdrop, FYD’s programmes build on young people’s talents through physical and mental challenges; developing core life skills and helping them achieve their potential.

FYD’s programmes are run across New Zealand by licensed community trusts, together reaching almost 18,000 young people every year.
