Film friendly protocol for Auckland

Film friendly protocol for Auckland

Auckland’s status as a film friendly destination is again centre stage following Auckland Council’s endorsement of a new film protocol for the region.

The new Auckland Film Protocol asserts the film and screen industry’s role in encouraging growth of the local and national economies, as well as its importance in the social and cultural development of Auckland.

“For Auckland to be the world’s most liveable city we need to introduce practices that make the region business friendly, high performing and globally connected,” says Mayor Len Brown.

“Over 6000 Aucklanders are employed in more than 1400 local businesses within the region’s screen production industry. It is a high performing sector earning gross revenues of around $2.2 billion each year, but there are opportunities to make Auckland an even more attractive film destination.”

Film Auckland, as part of the council-controlled organisation Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development (ATEED) developed the Auckland Film Protocol to attract and expedite local and international screen production.

“The protocol creates a platform for Auckland to say yes to requests from the film and screen industry. It streamlines processes across Auckland Council organisations to help the region better compete,” says Michael Brook, Manager Film Auckland.

“The protocol is a key step in enhancing Auckland’s reputation as a truly film friendly destination.”

Auckland Council’s Regional Development and Operations Committee endorsed the Auckland Film Protocol at it’s March meeting.
