TARGA Newsletter

Hello Everyone,
Well another month has gone by and a lot as happened during May. The winter is really starting to settle in over the last week with cold snaps covering most of the country as we experience southerly blasts from Antarctica bringing early snow for the coming ski season. It is amazing how quickly the temperature drops and this has vindicated the moving of Targa Rotorua into May. The feedback on the new format and date change was a hugh success and so it appears we have found a new date for Targa Rotorua and so please make note for next year.

Targa Rotorua Event Wrap Up
It was so nice to have more sunshine than rain for a change and the Autumn weather truly showcased the regions picturesque scenery. Thanks to all the officials and volunteer groups as well as the Rotorua Council who hosted us in their usual style and everyone involved seemed to really enjoy themselves. It was great having Kids in Cars set up the Family Fun Zone on the Village Green all weekend and take the local children for rides around town in their Ford Falcon Race Car. NZ Classic Car Magazine is now out and they have again done a wonderful job of detailing the event.
Congratulations to all Category, Competition and Award winners as well as everyone who finished the event in one piece. We sometime need to reminded you that Targa is an endurance event and it is all about getting to the finish line, so well done to all who made it. Event results are available online at www.targa.co.nz

North Island Endurance Series
Speaking of endurance, as some of you may know the 6 Hour Endurance race, which was originally scheduled for the same weekend as Targa Rotorua, has been moved to the 5-6th July still at Pukekohe Park Raceway and still in the day-night format. They have also just announced some changes to the Classes which will now allow the use of "Slicks" in some cases. The Hampton Downs round will now be part of this Series and this is scheduled for 27th July and is a day format. For more information please contact race@nscc.org.nz

Targa Calendars
As you know every year we make a Targa Calendar and the time has arrived to start planning the next one. If you are keen to have your car on a month then please call me on 0274 525643 or email peter@targa.co.nz to discuss this in more detail. It is a great promotional opportunity as we make approximately 26,000 copies and they are distributed via NZ Classic Car Magazine as well as the various community groups we engage. Spaces are limited to 12 based on first in first served and yes there is a cost.

Targa NZ 31October-3rd November
This may sound like a long way off given the changes we have made to this year's calendar, but it will sneak up on you sooner than you realize, so don't be caught short of time and get your entries in NOW. The event will start form Auckland and will travel to New Plymouth then Parmerston North, Havelock North and finishing in Taupo. Pre-event testing options are currently being worked through and these will be announced shortly as a replacement to prologue. Prize giving will also be held on the evening we finish rather than the traditional breakfast the following day. Both of these changes have been designed to reduce the number of days away from all our busy lives. Just remember that for every entrant there are approximately 15 volunteers required and this is based on 100 entries, so these changes also help them.

Tony Kilworth- R.I.P
It is with sadness that advise the passing of a longtime Targa NZ Official. Tony was an ACotC with Targa NZ from the start and he was also involved with many other Motorsport events. He passed away on 30th May after a short term illness and will be missed by all who knew him. Our thoughts are with his family at this time. A celebration of his life will be held in Tauranga on Tuesday 4th June at 1.00pm. We have arranged transport from the Targa NZ office on Tuesday morning for anyone wishing to join us please email peter@targa.co.nz or phone 0274 525643 so we can confirm the size of the bus required.

Have a safe weekend.
Peter and the Targa Team.
