Speight’s Coast to Coast: 14 - 15 February 2014

This Valentine’s Day, almost 800 endurance junkies from around the world will confirm their love for adventure at the 32nd Speight’s Coast to Coast.

This epic 243km running, cycling and kayaking race across New Zealand’s ruggedly beautiful South Island starts on the edge of the Tasman Sea at the West Coast’s Kumara Beach and traverses the South Island’s Central Divide via Goat Pass in Arthur’s Pass National Park then follows the Waimakariri River down from the mountains and across the Canterbury Plains to finish on the shores of the Pacific Ocean at Christchurch’s Sumner Beach for a well-deserved can of cold Speight’s.

The multisport world championship contenders take more than 10 hours to cover the course, while the slowest time ever recorded was 24.5 hours. It’s been described as the iconic New Zealand adventure and more symbolic of the Kiwi spirit than any other race.

For more than three decades, the Speight’s Coast to Coast has attracted world champions and weekend warriors from 26 countries, with more 20,000 people having raced West to East across the South Island.

Speight’s Gold Medal Ale is the official beer of this year’s race. It’s full of flavour with malt and hops shining through, competitors say it’s something that makes that finish line crossing one to savour.
