Kaibosh Food Rescue asks Wellingtonians to Miss a Meal in May

This May Kaibosh are again asking Wellingtonians to show support for their food rescue and redistribution service by missing one meal that they would have eaten out and instead donating the money they would have spent to Kaibosh.

Kaibosh are currently supporting 32 community groups with the regular provision of fresh foodstuffs – quality fit-for-purpose food which is being diverted away from landfill and instead reaching those in our community who are most in need.

Each month they rescue and redistribute over 10,000kg of food. This is enough to provide 28,500 meals to those who are struggling or at risk whilst also preventing 7,785kg of greenhouse gas methane/CO2 emissions from entering the atmosphere.

Wellington Mayor Celia Wade-Brown says “"Kaibosh strengthens existing networks and fills a very specific gap, enabling existing charities to do an even better job. Kaibosh helps address the paradox of food poverty in the midst of food excess and wastage."

Kaibosh are only able to operate their service with the support of the people of Wellington. By missing one meal which you may have eaten out and donating this money to Kaibosh, you can help ensure that their service continues to operate and to make a difference to Wellington’s most vulnerable.

For every $20 donated, Kaibosh are able to provide 43 meals to those in need.
