The Exponents Set to Wow Crowds at Opening Party

The Exponents Set to Wow Crowds at American Express Opening Party & Fireworks

Quintessential Kiwi Rockers ‘The Exponents’ will headline the American Express Opening Party and Fireworks on Friday 20th June, as part of the 40th anniversary celebrations at the American Express Queenstown Winter Festival.

No strangers to Winter Festival, lead singer Jordan Luck has performed at the celebrations several times and is delighted to have been invited back to celebrate the festival’s 40th anniversary.

“We love performing in Queenstown for Winter Festival. There’s definitely something about the crowd, the scenery and of course the season. It makes for a really groovy vibe.” says Luck.

With hits like ‘Why Does Love Do This To Me?’ and ‘Who Loves Who The Most’, The Exponents provide sing-along universal appeal to the open-air American Express Opening Party and Fireworks that attracts people from all over New Zealand and further afield.

Festival Manager Lisa Buckingham says she’s thrilled that The Exponents are joining the festivities.

“Seeing ‘The Exponents’ live is something of a rite of passage for Kiwis, so they were an obvious choice for the American Express Queenstown Winter Festival 40th anniversary celebrations. We hope crowds will come from far and wide to join in the party, it’s a rare opportunity to see a band of this calibre for free and in such an amazing open-air setting,” says Lisa.

Starting from 5.30pm and before the Exponents take to the stage, the top three places from Queenstown’s original song writing contest and talent-hunt ‘Songstars’ and up-and-coming talent from Christchurch ‘Nomad’ will perform.

A series of locals acts will also take the audience back in time, playing their favourite hits from the last four decades as a further tribute to the Winter Festival’s 40 year celebrations.

The outdoor concert will be officially opened by the Hon Bill English, Deputy Leader before the annual and much-anticipated Fireworks display starts at 7pm, announcing the start of Queenstown’s favourite season.

The American Express Opening Party is the official start of the American Express Queenstown Winter Festival. For more information on the rest of the Winter Festival programme, or to buy tickets from May 5th, visit www.winterfestival.co.nz
