Brother Love’s Free Association are making a special voyage to Auckland next weekend for two shows, on Friday July 4 and Saturday July 5.

They’ll make a raucous appearance at the Thirsty Dog on Saturday 5th with the truly mighty Seeds of Orbit, and acclaimed songwriterGeorge Henderson and his New Existentialists; and if you're a resident of the highly rocking West Auckland region, their show at UFOon Friday July 4th with the Neo-Kalashnikovs is but a stone's throw away.

The Saturday night also has special meaning for the bands, as it’s something of a tribute to their mutual friend Cameron Bain, who very recently passed away. Bain was a mainstay of the Auckland underground music scene until he moved to the UK. The list of New Zealand bands he was in is very impressive: Brother Love, Gestalt, Supercar, Squaw, Constant Pain, Spacedust, Dimmer, The Knives, Figure 60, Hot Buttered Soul (for a few practices), Arsonists, Mothertrucker, Universal Coward and solo project Vaw. He continued his musical output in the UK, where he played with The Mean Streaks, Hung Jury, Vukujebina (we may have the spelling not quite right there) and Traum. For his part, Marty Henderson has assembled an all-star line-up for his Free Association, including early members Patrick ‘Duane Zarakov’ Faigan (Space Dust, Say Yes To Apes, The Axel Grinders, King Loser) and Ken E. Bear (SMAK, Ape Management), plusJohn Segovia (Shaft, Axel Grinders) and George D Henderson (The Puddle, Mink, The New Existentialists) all helping to create the garage psychedelic swirl of the live Brother Love experience.

Brother Love was formed in Christchurch in 1993 as a live vehicle for the music of guitarist/songwriter Marty Henderson. Over their 2-decade career, Brother Love’s various indie star-studded line-ups have gained the notice of record labels in New York and Germany, with the band touring the US twice. The Brother Love band have played shows with bands such as Bardo Pond, Fuzzhead, Mark Arm’s Bloodloss, San Francisco’s Monoshock and Barbara Manning, the No-Neck Blues, Dead Moon, King Loser and Sebadoh. In 2000, they were featured on the soundtrack of feature film ‘Snakeskin’. In 2013, the group released the retrospective compilation “20 Years In A Rockin’ Boat” on Powertool Records, and they have since been working on new material for both vinyl and CD/online.

George D. Henderson is the driving force behind the Puddle, and was a co-founder of Mink. A favourite of critics, praise forHenderson’s song writing also often comes from other songwriters. His new incarnation, The New Existentialists, also features occasional contributions from Powertool favourite Matthew Bannister.

Seeds of Orbit are something of a three-piece supergroup, with a deep love for heavy mod, stoner rock and acid folk. Made up of Mark Petersound (aka Mark Petersen – Straitjacket Fits, Cabbage Bomber, Shaft), Bridgette Bowie (The Doris Days, Cabbage Bomberand legendary all-girl punk band Fake Purr), and Marty Doo (NZ: The Beads; Australia: Glide, Challenger 7, Scruffs, Grapefruit), their mind-alteringly psychedelic debut EP ‘Seeds of Orbit’ is out now on Powertool Records – and they really bring it to life when they play live.
