Most successful doubles team ever joins 2015 Heineken Open

Most successful doubles team of all time added to 2015 Heineken Open

Adding to what is already the best ever Heineken Open field, which includes seven top 20 ranked players, organisers of the Heineken Open today announced that the most successful doubles team of all time, and current world number one pairing, Mike and Bob Bryan, will compete for the title.

Their list of achievements is staggering. 105 career titles, 16 Grand Slam Doubles Titles, Seven Grand Slam Mixed Doubles Titles and Four Season Ending Championships Titles. They are the only players in either singles or doubles to win all nine ATP Masters Level titles; and incredibly, have been the season ending number one team in the world in 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014.

The identical twins have won more games, more matches, more tournaments and held the number one ranking for more weeks (397 weeks), than any other player of all time.

2014 saw the duo continue their dominance on tour, winning ten titles including six at the Masters level and reaching the final on a further three occasions. Their win at the US Open in September meant the twins have won at least one Grand Slam every year for the last ten years.

The announcement of the Bryan brothers means Auckland will host both the number one ranked men’s pair and the number one ranked women’s pair (Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci) in 2015.

“This really is the icing on the cake for us. I am not sure we will see this quality of field again in New Zealand for some time. To have seven top twenty players and by far the best doubles team of all time in the one year really is amazing,” says Tournament Director, Karl Budge.

“We will certainly be the envy of many larger tournaments around the world given the strength of our fields this year,” continued Budge.

The 2015 Heineken Open will offer a truly international line-up, celebrating world-class tennis on the local stage at the NZ Festival of Tennis, as well as the very best hospitality offering including MASU, Best Ugly Bagels, and The Grill at the Heineken Baseline live-site.
