Cricket, food and entertainment combine at International Cultures Day

World Cup cricket and culture will combine in Cornwall Park, Hastings on International Cultures Day.

The first of three world cup matches to be played at McLean Park takes place on Sunday 8th March and features the Black Caps and Afghanistan.

Multicultural Association Hawkes Bay President Sook Hua Lee says “A group of Afghani entertainers who are based in Auckland are being brought to Hastings as special guests for the 2015 International Cultures Day. They will bring their own unique brand of music and dance to the stage at Cornwall Park and then will support their home country at McLean Park the next day.”

Hawke’s Bay Cricket have also programmed a full day of games on the Cornwall Park pitches featuring the more ethnically diverse teams from the local club competitions; further emphasising the global nature of cricket being celebrated at International Cultures Day.

Sook Hua Lee says “Cultures Day will again feature food from all around the world. There really will be something to suit everyone’s taste buds. The event will also feature crafts and community stalls, entertainment on the main stage from 11am and entry to Cornwall Park is free.”

“Along with the group from Afghanistan, the entertainment lineup includes the Filifest Filipino Dance Group from Wellington, the Pacific communities of Hawke’s Bay, the Fetu Ao Samoan Wesley Methodist Group, the St Andrews Cook Islands Cultural group and performers from Vanuatu, Fiji and the Solomon Islands representing the seasonal employees in our orchards.”
