Meng Foon Elected as NZCA National President

At the New Zealand Chinese Association’s (NZCA) annual conference last weekend, Meng Foon was elected as its new national president. Mr Foon is also the current mayor of Gisborne.

“This is a great honour for me, as the NZCA shows the support of Kiwi Chinese spread throughout the country.”

NZCA is the only ethnic Chinese organisation with national representation, having fourteen branches across New Zealand. It is seen by many as the leading Chinese organization, with a common voice free of political and religious bias.

He is joined by Richard Leung of Auckland as its national vice president, James To of Christchurch as national secretary, Monica Mu of Auckland as its national Chinese language secretary, and Mark Ngan Kee of Wellington as its national treasurer. Mr Foon acknowledged and thanked immediate past president Gerald Wong of Palmerston North for his leadership during his term.
