New Trust Fulfilling Palliative Patient Wish Lists

MEDIA RELEASE

New Charitable Trust Fulfilling Palliative Patient Wish Lists

The force behind a new charitable trust hopes to attract support to fulfil the dreams of adult New Zealanders with life limiting illnesses.

Viv James has treated palliative care patients throughout the wider Auckland area to an annual RACE4LIFE day at Hampton Downs race track for the past eight years, offering the chance to experience a ride in a variety of cars, trucks, bikes and even a helicopter. The event has been run with the help of race car enthusiasts, avid supporters, loyal sponsors and service providers, volunteers, hospice workers, friends and family.

Over the last year Viv’s volunteer effort extended to cater for patients wanting to tick something special off their bucket list: the RACE4LIFE Wish List Service. This service is the only service of its kind available to palliative care patients in New Zealand

“We’ve granted more than 30 wish lists and I am deeply grateful and simply overwhelmed with the amazing support we’ve had from the so many businesses around New Zealand who have contributed to our cause,” says Viv.

“We’ve bought families together in special places, helped communities arrange weddings and organised special treats for people wanting to live life to its fullest before they die. All of this has been possible due to the kind and very generous support of sponsors from all over New Zealand who contribute their time, travel, accommodation, meals and genuine compassion and kindness.”

Viv James says the RACE4LIFE Trust is now seeking public donations to help meet an increasing number of RACE4LIFE Wish List requests and to support a growing calendar of events.

Eighty palliative care patients from nine hospices will visit Hampton Downs Raceway to attend the 9th RACE4LIFE event on Tuesday 22 March 2016.
