Prima Donna: Ten Tenors? Not this time… it’s the ladies’ turn

This variety concert featuring an all-female cast will showcase some beautiful music from Mozart to the Eurythmics – and everything in between. The twelve classically trained singers and three accompanists are emerging performers based in Auckland and Hamilton, with many embarking on solo careers. While the girls are often in productions and events up and down the country, a project involving so many young soloists is rare and this collaboration is the first of its kind.

Prima Donna is a show celebrating women’s stories as multiple genres are crossed to explore perspectives on resilience, sisterhood and joy. For one night only, audience will be treated to solo, duo, and ensemble music in the iconic Māngere Arts Centre on Saturday the 9th of April. The event is suitable for the entire family, and there’s something in it for everyone – even self-diagnosed classical music haters (however, misogynists would fare poorly). All proceeds will go to Women’s Refuge New Zealand, in support of its impact in women’s lives.

Tickets may be purchased from http://www.eventfinda.co.nz/2016/prima-donna/auckland/mangere, or from door sales. Waged: $25, Unwaged: $15, with a 20% group discount available for purchases of over 8 tickets – details on the website, and on the Prima Donna Facebook page.
