The Best Poets In The Country Slam To Be Champion

The Best Poets In The Country Slam To Be Champion

New Zealand Poetry Slam proudly presents the 2016 NZ National Poetry Slam Finals! The top poets from across Aotearoa have been battling it out in their own cities for a chance to compete at the National Finals. Now, the best performance poets in the country will perform in Hamilton for a chance to be crowned 2016 National Poetry Slam Champion.

Come experience the most electric, hilarious, and powerful spoken stories in the country. The Top 13 will compete in three rounds of competition and their words are in the hands of the audience: five random audience members will be chosen to determine the winner of cash prizes and bragging rights. The National Slam Finals return to Hamilton, New Zealand for the second year in a row and will feature poets representing Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, Nelson, Christchurch and Dunedin.

Featuring a special performance by our 2015 National Slam Champion Mohamed Hassan. He returns to New Zealand fresh from his first tour of the United States, where he placed 23rd in the world at the 2016 Individual World Poetry Slam, the first New Zealander to ever compete. Mohamed Hassan is a journalist and poet from Auckland. This year he released his first poetry collection, A Felling of Things.
