March into MOTAT for Military Day

March into MOTAT for Military Day

Experience the rumble and roar of war first-hand at MOTAT’s Military Day on Sunday 5 March when you step back in time to some of the most tumultuous periods in history.

Join in the action and come dressed up in your best military outfit. There will be interactive experiences and vehicle displays as well as steam train and armoured personnel carrier rides. MOTAT will come alive with battle re-enactments, weapon fire power demonstrations and expert face painting. Visitors will also be thrilled by the roar of ex-military aircraft overhead as the New Zealand Warbirds Association fly over the Museum at 11am and 1:30pm.

MOTAT Visitor Engagement Manager, Sarah Somerville says Military Day gives visitors some insight into what life was like for both soldiers and civilians during times of unrest.

“Although it’s undoubtedly a great day out for the whole family, Military Day is also an opportunity to reflect on New Zealand’s contribution to various military campaigns. It tells a deeper story of the sacrifices made by those serving their country and helps our visitors comprehend the scale and consequences of war,” says Ms Somerville.

MOTAT’s world-class collection of wartime memorabilia will be on display alongside aircraft restored by staff and volunteers, including a Lancaster Bomber, and military vehicles dating back as early as WWI.

Round up the troops and get along to the Aviation Display Hall in Motions Road for an action-packed day.Military Day activities are included in the normal MOTAT admission fee.
