DISTINCTLY DUNEDIN -
SWEET ADELINES NZ NATIONAL COMPETITION 2017
This weekend the best in a cappella singing wowed audience and judges alike at the Distinctly Dunedin Sweet Adelines NZ national Competitions.
2017 Champions
• The Champion Quartet - L’Attitude brings together singers from Gisborne, Nelson and Christchurch. L’Attitude , Carolyn Duggan (Tenor), Toni Griffin (Lead), Patrice Driver (Bari), Virginia Humphrey-Taylor (Bass) will now represent New Zealand at the International Competition in Las Vegas, USA in October this year.
• The Champion Chorus –
Wellington City Chorus, under the musical direction
of David Brooks and Henriette Hunkin-Tagaloa, will represent
New Zealand at the International Competitions in St Louis,
USA in October 2018.

Event
• Quartets and Choruses from around the country performed energetic a cappella uptunes and sentimental ballads as they vied for the 2017 champion trophies.
• With sparkling sequins, dynamic choreography and ringing chords, Sweet Adelines know how to wow an audience.
• Over 450 singers attendees from around New Zealand attended the four day competition event. It was the first time the event was hosted in Dunedin.
• A judging panel of four specialists (in the categories of sound, music, expression and showmanship) travelled from the USA to adjudicate the competition. The winning chorus and quartet will represent New Zealand at the International Competitions. The winning quartet will compete in Las Vegas later this year and the winning chorus will compete in St Louis in 2018.

• Sweet Adelines New Zealand is part of Sweet Adelines International, the largest worldwide organisation of women singers, who are committed to advancing the musical art form of barbershop harmony through education, competition and performance.
• There are around 700 singers in 15 choruses across New Zealand who sing and perform a cappella four-part harmony music, barbershop style.
