New initiative in support of the visual arts

The NZ Contemporary Art Trust and The Pantograph Punch announce a new initiative in support of the visual arts

The Pantograph Punch and the NZ Contemporary Art Trust are delighted to announce THE UNMISSABLES: a new series of bite-sized reviews by a rotating cast of young writers, showcasing the notable, the controversial, and the must-see exhibitions in Auckland (and beyond) every month.

“Auckland’s visual arts scene is bursting at the seams, and even the most committed gallery-visitors end up feeling overwhelmed,” comments Pantograph’s founding editor Rosabel Tan. “We see this as a chance for our amazing writers – with their expertise and their distinct interests and perspectives – to point us towards the exhibitions we could easily miss, but shouldn’t.”

The Pantograph Punch retains all editorial control in this partnership, and with the support of the NZ Contemporary Art Trust, have been able to recruit a dedicated team of young writers for this new series, including Eloise Callister-Baker (Auckland), Amy Weng (Auckland), Lana Lopesi (Auckland), Francis McWhannell (Auckland), Matariki Williams (Wellington), Robyn Maree Pickens (Dunedin) and Cameron Ralston (Christchurch).

Jennifer Buckley, a founding member of the NZ Contemporary Art Trust, states, “With the aim of expanding the audience for the visual arts, the trust established and presented Auckland Art Fair (from 2005 to 2015) and Artweek since 2010. Given the steady decline of arts coverage in our mainstream media, we see this partnership with The Pantograph Punch, and its support of emerging arts writers, as a great extension of our objectives."
