Grand Tease New Zealand – Finale

After three heats around New Zealand, in Hamilton (aka Glamilton), Wellington and Christchurch, the search for our 2017 champion is over!

25 contestants from around NZ participated in this year’s competition, with so many stand out performances. As the competition has been growing in the past three years, the level of talent and support each year also continues to grow, which is fantastic for the burlesque community around New Zealand.

The Grand Finale was held in Christchurch on Saturday 15th July at a fully packed and sold out Halo Venue and the 9 finalists were Gwen Porcelain, Leo Valor, Blue Virtue, Lilly Loca, Miss Kitty Rose, Kiki Kisses, Constance Maehem, Ruby Rocket and Heaven Z’Dor.

Each of the finalists had to present a “classic” inspired act, a “neo” inspired act, and finally an act which was totally improvised. The song was not known till only seconds before as it was drawn out of the hat, live on stage! This makes for some excellent and very challenging performance art, which was judged by an expert panel of judges.

The competition was fierce, rhinestones and feather flew, there was pelvic thrusting, tassel and assel twirling, gender bending and some outrageous acts during the massive 5 hour show which Master of Ceremonies – “Piotr from Uzbekoslavia” guided the excited audience through every deliciously beautiful twist and turn, right through to the weird and downright wacky.

In the end, the title of SUPREME GRAND TEASE 2017 was awarded to LILLY LOCA from Auckland. Runner Up was Ruby Rocket from Christchurch.

Lilly Loca wowed the crowd and the judges with her beautiful classic routine “Absolem” then turned that on its head with her neo act as “Gary Krumbert” who is a loveable, geek, with the best dance moves.

Lilly Loca took home the trophy, the sash, an amazing prize pack from our sponsors, $1000 in prize money and the glory of being crowned the 2017 Supreme Grand Tease New Zealand!
