Two Family Shows come to Circa Theatre bringing books to life: July School Holidays

New Zealand’s own internationally acclaimed Little Dog Barking’s World Premiere of “Black Dog” and returning to Wellington is the beautiful “Duck Death and the Tulip”. Performing at Circa Theatre, 1 Taranaki Street in Wellington 10 – 21 July.

Peter Wilson, Director, established Little Dog Barking in 2010. Peter’s vision for the company is to create innovative and original theatre productions for Early Childhood and Lower Primary School audiences.

Black Dog is adapted for the stage by Peter Wilson and is based on the beautiful story by New Zealand’s own Pamela Allen.

A hauntingly beautiful story about love and friendship that will reach out and touch us all.

A very special theatre experience for the very young and their families, grandma will enjoy it as well. Black Dog and Christina lived together on the edge of a forest. They had been friends for a very long time.

In Spring, they ran together over the hills. In Summer, they swam together in the river. In Autumn, they played together in the fallen leaves. As it got cooler they collected sticks for the fire that would keep them warm during the long winter. But one day, everything changed.

Even the young know the pain of love. In this beautiful story we share Black Dog’s pain as he waits for Christina’s love to return.

Performed by Kenny King, Rebekah Head, and Pippi Jane with original music composed by Liam Reid and directed by Peter Wilson.

Duck Death and the Tulip is adapted for the stage by Peter Wilson from the award-winning children’s book of the same name by Wolf Erlbruch. Directed by Nina Nawalowalo and award-winning music by Gareth Farr. The piece is performed by Peter Wilson and Kenny King.

A Duck meets a character called Death. They strike up an unlikely friendship. They go swimming together, drink cups of tea and generally enjoy life together. Duck of course grows older as each day passes and it soon comes time for the two friends to part. One of the most beautiful stories for children from the pen of Wolf Erlbruch, writer of the Hans Christian Andersen Award for Children’s Literature. Award-winning puppetry about an unlikely friendship between a Duck and Death.
