The Performance Arcade is back
on Wellington Waterfront for its spectacular 2019 lineup of
live art and music from 22 -24 Feb and 28 Feb - 3 March.
Open hours 10am-11pm daily.
The Performance Arcade is an
accessible and FREE event
for all.
Opening Night 7pm, 21 Feb – All Welcome.
About The Performance Arcade: this award-winning event brings together Live Art, Music and Performance in a specially curated event on Wellington Waterfront. Audiences come for an exciting and diverse program of art, live music, and performance, installed within a special architectural arrangement of shipping containers that are stacked and arranged together to create an innovative new space for performance and arts presentation. This is a unique, temporary space showcasing both NZ and International artists, visited by 60-90,000 people every year on Wellington Waterfront.
Now in its ninth year, The Performance Arcade has become an anticipated and acclaimed event that defines Wellington's creativity and innovation. This miniature festival offers new encounters between artists and public, creating a vibrant hub that activates the city and exposes communities to new ideas and cultural perspectives.

Whai mai te rārangi māwhero:
The Performance Arcade
2019 features a three-kilometre Pink Line extending along
Wellington Waterfront from the Railway Station to Oriental
Bay. Building on our vision for Wellington as a city of live
art, this dynamic pathway will connect audiences with a
diverse range of experiences in live performance, culinary
art, music, creative partnerships and public installation.
The Dancer:
A twenty-metre-tall
projection onto Carter Fountain in Oriental Bay. Using a
special fixture created for The Sun Festival in 1984, this
spectacular image of a dancer on the surface of water will
be visible from across Wellington Harbour every evening of
the event. Trustpower presents the dancer by Jeremy Brick
with Royal NZ Ballet.
The Culinary Performance
Series:
The Performance Arcade 2019 programme
features an exciting addition to its regular offerings: a
walking menu of culinary performances along The Pink Line
and Wellington Waterfront. Working with local hospitality
providers and food artists, The Culinary Performance Series
promises to be a feast for the eyes and the tastebuds!
Including culinary performances from:
Mexican QBT
Chef
Andrés Pimentel will serve Mexican food whilst regaling
audiences with his own stories of illegal border crossings
and immigration. Passing tortillas across the Pink Line,
Pimentel will wrap each serving in stories of the lines one
man has crossed on his journey to Te
Whanganui-a-Tara.
Caitlin Le Harivel
Edible landscapes
of Matiu/Somes Island made from edible jelly and champagne
by culinary artist Caitlin Le Harivel, served on glowing
lightboxes. These beautifully formed ‘food sculptures’
will be available from The Performance Arcade Pop-Up Bar
from 21 February – 3 March. Up to 10 diners at a time are
invited to order their own edible landscape and participate
in the collective erosion and consumption of a familiar
Wellington landmark.
Tuatara IPA
After a highly
successful collaboration in 2018, The Performance Arcade are
partnering with Wellington based Tuatara Breweries once
again to produce the 4.5% IPA Loose Cargo: a refreshing and
fruity pale ale, perfect for summer!
Other participants in The Culinary Performance Series include Gelissimo Gelato, St Johns Bar, and Leftfield wines.
