Woman in Blue Short Film

19th February, WELLINGTON, NEW ZEALAND

Woman in Blue is a New Zealand short film about an ex-policewoman who relives her memories from a dementia ward. The film is shooting in March in Wellington and the cast includes Tanea Heke, Jim Moriarty and Acushla-Tara Kupe.

The short film is an action film with heart; dementia is a very real issue for the writers, Jack O’Donnell and Ashleigh Flynn. As Jack's grandmother went through dementia in a ward; and Ashleigh's grandfather used to be a police officer; so they blended the two stories and some of the script is taken from real conversations that they have had.

In the film they want to show that the main character feels strongly about the people in her life. Sophie, a woman in her mid 60s, has early onset dementia. She traverses backward and forwards through time as her memory fades. She relives her younger, action filled days in the police force, but also tender moments from her life, including dancing with her husband. She is only brought back ‘down to earth’ when someone close to her breaks her reality.

The creatives behind Woman in Blue are currently crowdfunding to make the film and are raising funds to cover the costs of production.
