2019 IHC Art Awards judges announced

IHC is proud to announce our fantastic judges for the 2019 IHC Art Awards.

We welcome first time judge Kerrie Hughes to the 2019 Art Awards judging panel and we are delighted to have both Jae Kang and Tim Walker back with us for another year.

Kerrie Hughes is a garment creator and artist based in Wellington. Her work has featured on several TV shows including Absolutely Fabulous and Friends and are in the collections of The Victoria and Albert Museum, Te Papa the Dowse Museums and have featured in Vogue, Tatler and Elle magazines. Kerrie has had three exhibitions at Bowen Galleries and has been a World of Wearable Arts judge.

Jae Kang is a South Korean-born artist based in Auckland, known primarily for her large-scale gallery and outdoor public installations. Jae's ethos is socially engaged, producing generous, layered works accessible to the general public.

Tim Walker is an Auckland-based arts and culture consultant with more than three decades experience in the art gallery sector. This will be Tim’s fourth time judging the Awards.

The IHC Art Awards remain an annual highlight as a showcase for the talent and achievements of people with intellectual disabilities. Entries are open to New Zealanders aged 13 or over with an intellectual disability regardless of whether they use IHC/IDEA services.

IHC Art Awards Ambassador, Dame Denise L’Estrange-Corbet, co-founder of internationally acclaimed fashion house WORLD, has been involved with the IHC Art Awards since 2009 and became an Ambassador in 2016.

Denise has been travelling up and down New Zealand encouraging artists to get involved with the Art Awards: “The IHC Art Awards are a chance for everyone to have a glimpse of the brilliance that I am honoured to witness during my visits. The Awards provide these artists with a chance to express themselves and be recognised for their extraordinary talent.”

Entries for the 2019 IHC Art Awards open on Wednesday 1 May 2019.
