Spring Graduation

Graduates at the University of Auckland spring capping ceremonies this coming Thursday (October 5) include 44 receiving doctorates.

The PhD graduates are spread across all disciplines headed by16 in Science and 15 in Arts. They include three Maori.

Their theses cover a wide range of topics from gambling, the politics of the New Zealand household and myopia through to online marketing, Auckland's air pollution and protecting endangered species.

Some 1396 students will be graduating in four ceremonies at the Auckland Town Hall.

They will receive a total of 1482 degrees and diplomas (86 gaining more than one). Some 1095 qualifications will be personally conferred, the rest "in absentia".

Arts has the most graduates with 409 followed by 388 in Science, and 385 in Business and Economics. There are 62 in Engineering, 61 in Medical and Health Sciences, 60 in Law, 52 in Education, 44 in Architecture Property Planning and Fine Arts, 17 in Theology, and four in Music.

Graduates and staff will process through the city in colourful academic regalia. Leaving Princes Street at 10am they will walk via Bowen Avenue, Victoria Street East and Queen Street.

Graduation is held twice a year; at the autumn ceremonies in May, 4330 students graduated.
