Emergency Unemployment Benefit

Tertiary students and the general public will be demonstrating today to get the government to support Sue Bradford's strapped bill, which would have reinstated the emergency unemployment benefit.

Tertiary students from Waikato Polytechnic, Waikato University and the public will demonstrate outside Martin Gallagher's office and up at the polytechnic to support the scrapped bill, which would have supported all students over the summer, not just those on a student allowance.

Students are saying that there will be heavy demands on food banks, as students will try to live for six weeks without money. The summer is being billed as the summer of starvation.
