Student Association moving on.

The Massey @ Wellington Student Association is relieved that action has been taken against a staff member who committed fraud in 2002.

“It has been nine months since this matter was brought to police attention and we are now in the final stages of getting some resolution.” Mel Borich President of M@WSA says.

A 28 year old women appeared in Wellington District Court on Wednesday 6 August on charges of falsifying a document.

“It has been hard on all the staff here to think that someone could betray the trust we placed in this person, we all empathise with the situation at the Ministry of Social Development.” Ms Borich says.

Ms Borich says the Association’s bankers were alerted in the beginning of December 2002 about concerns they had with some of the Association’s recent transactions. The Association hired accountants Curtis McLean to do a thorough investigation.

The investigation revealed that unauthorised debts had been run up prior to December.

Ms Borich says it has been difficult to communicate aspects of the case to members for fear of jeopardising the investigation.

“As the trial is still continuing we are limited as to what we can release, however there will be a full disclosure of the information we have to date at the M@WSA September General meeting, on September 9 2003.” Ms Borich says.
