The Glammies return!

MEDIA RELEASE

8 July 2005

The Glammies return!

UniQ Victoria, the support group for Victoria University’s non-heterosexual students, is proud to announce the return of The Glammies—Wellington’s award night for the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and intersex (GLBTI) community—as the opening event of UniQ’s Pride Week on 11 September.

The Glammies ran for a number of years in the late 90s and always attracted large crowds from all walks of the community.

Paul Brown, UniQ President says, “The Glammies were about recognising those who’ve worked hard to improve the acceptance of the GLBTI community. Recently our community has been under attack from many areas, including fundamentalists, and so we thought that bringing back The Glammies as a way of celebrating the positive side of our community was a fantastic idea.”

Sponsors of The Glammies include Gaynz.com, Pound Nite Club, Victoria University of Wellington Students’ Association (VUWSA) and UP magazine, with more to be announced soon.

Nominations for the 19 awards are being taken on Gaynz.com from July 10 and can also be made at Pound. Voting will begin in August through UP magazine, Gaynz.com and ballot boxes at Pound and at the VUWSA Office.

The venue and entertainment are still to be confirmed but Paul says “it‘ll live up to its name and be ultra glam! We’re planning a fantastic night of entertainment with some special surprises!”
