Peachey should lay off Selwyn College

Media Release

20 June 2006

Will he ever learn?

Tamaki MP Allan Peachey should lay off Selwyn College and let the school get on with the job of educating its students, PPTA president Debbie Te Whaiti said today.

She said Mr Peachey was continuing to use his position as an MP to discourage the community from uniting around the school.

“Mr Peachey’s latest letter makes it clear that his earlier “knife in the back” email threats were hardly the ‘harmless horseplay’ that he and other commentators tried to suggest.

“When you are paid by the taxpayer to represent the community, to single out one school with intimidatory tactics is simply reprehensible.

“His actions only promote a negative image of the school amongst the community.

“To reiterate the words of James Belich (Metro, June 2006), Selwyn College ‘deserves the support of its community, rather than backstabbing’.”
