It’s All about the Bling

It’s All about the Bling

Students are calling on the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) to ensure that under the newly announced Tertiary Education funding system higher education does not become an elite privilege for a select few.

More importantly, students are urging the government to ensure tertiary education is adequately funded to allow institutions to ensure equal access for people irrespective of their wealth.

“Student fees have increased under the so called “education friendly” Labour government and this is simply outrageous” said Richard Mitchell.

“Bums on seat funding has not served students or the country well, and we are glad to see the back of it. However, we are very concerned that a failure in adequate government funding will create an education system when only those with the bling can participate” said Mr Mitchell.

OPSA urges the government to ensure tertiary institutions are adequately funded to decrease fees and increase access to student living allowances
