Monday, 09 June, 2008: Stewart Germann, Chairman of the Board of Multi Serve Education Trust, today announced the appointment of Dr John Langley as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective Monday, 30 June, 2008. Dr Langley is currently Dean of the Faculty of Education at the University of Auckland and is also a board member of the New Zealand Qualifications Authority.

Commenting on the appointment, Mr. Germann said it was the culmination of an extensive international search and selection process.

"The calibre of the short list was very impressive but John clearly stood out because of his proven educational experience and expertise. He's very much a team player, a great leader of people, and as an exceptional educator I am certain that he will add considerable value to Multi Serve Education Trust, he said.

"In addition, he'll bolster the continuing growth of our subsidiary Cognition Consulting Limited, which provides a diverse array of educational services to meet individual client needs in markets around the world. With an unrivalled pedigree and proven performance, John is the ideal person to further extend our existing levels of success," he added.

Dr Langley will also contribute to Cognition Education Research Trust. This independent Research Trust contributes to building a stronger research base for New Zealand's education system.

Dr John Langley commented: "I'm honoured and delighted to have been presented with this opportunity and can't wait to contribute to Multi Serve's ongoing efforts to enhance educational outcomes, both locally and overseas."

Dr Langley was appointed as Principal of the Auckland College of Education in 2001. Prior to that, he was Director of the New Zealand Teacher Registration Board and a school principal. In his role as Principal of the College, Dr Langley was a key figure in the amalgamation of the College and the University of Auckland and with the formation of the Faculty of Education. He has led the Faculty since the amalgamation in September 2004.

Dr Langley possesses a Bachelor of Education, Master of Education (with distinction) and a Doctor of Philosophy (1997) from the University of Canterbury. His academic background is in educational psychology.
