Canterbury students celebrate chance for choice

Canterbury University Young Nationals’ Chair Kristin White is welcoming the Education (Freedom of Association) Amendment Bill, which has been drawn from the Parliamentary Member’s Bill Ballot.

“This Bill will liberate thousands of students from the last vestige of compulsory unionism in this country,” Ms. White said.

Students are the only sector of society currently forced to join a union. Students ought to have the same rights and freedoms as every other New Zealander”

“Student association membership needs to be an opt-in choice, not an-opt out alternative. This bill will provide for that choice”

“Only a voluntary organisation can genuinely claim to represent the views of their members.”

“The Canterbury University Young Nationals call on all MPs to vote for this bill through the first reading”
