Wellington engineering student off to London for Competition.

Honours student Abigail Arulandu will go to London next week to compete in the Engineering Olympics, the “Present around the World” competition.

Abigail, a 26 year old student at Victoria University won the prestigious Institution of Engineering and Technology’s Asia –Pacific leg of the competition with a ten minute presentation on her honours project .Abigail’s project is a rehabilitation device for stroke sufferers who have lost the use of their hands.

Abigail said the whole competition was“kind of surreal as I progressed from the competition in Wellington to Auckland and then on to Singapore. Now I am going to London.”

The British High Commission will be hosting Abigail at a special farewell lunch on Thursday .The British High Commissioner Mrs Vicki Treadell said “I am delighted that Abigail is going to be in a global competition that will spread the word on how critical engineering has become in the modern world.”

The United Kingdom has won 76 Nobel Prizes for Science and Technology so London is an ideal centre for this competition.

Abigail says the best thing about the competition so far has been the chance to meet and talk to other engineering students.” It’s been pretty awesome as I have been able discuss my own project with other people around the world.”
