Working Parties seek views

Working Parties established as part of the Wanganui District Council and UCOL joint Taskforce are making progress and are open to hearing ideas from groups or organisations who want to have some input. Mayor Annette Main, Chair of the Taskforce, said that the groups are being encouraged to consider how this might be done, but in the meantime anyone who wants to put their views forward can contact Allan MacGibbon at the Council.

“The Governance Group values the work being done by the Working Parties and has undertaken to give serious consideration to all the information and ideas put forward by the Working Parties. The ideas presented must take into account government funding priorities for tertiary education, and lead to educational and financial viability. Staff from the Council and UCOL will continue to provide information and assistance to the Working Parties,” Mayor Main said.

The Working Parties will present their recommendations to the Taskforce Governance Group, who in turn will make recommendations to the District Council and to UCOL. The Governance Group has also assured Working Party members that there will be an opportunity for them to receive feedback regarding the final recommendations made by the Taskforce based on the work that they have done.

Four Working Parties have been set up to look at Fine Arts and Glass education, the provision of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Education, the provision of training to those not engaged in employment, education or training (NEETs) and UCOL Whanganui Community connections.

The Working Parties are continuing to meet regularly, gathering and analysing their ideas before presenting their proposals to the Taskforce Governance Group for consideration after Easter.
