Studio Christchurch takes on the Green Frame

Studio Christchurch takes on the Green Frame

A Waltham factory hosts an exhibition of models of students’ fresh new design ideas for the Green Frame and Avon Precinct aspects of the Christchurch Central Development Unit (CCDU) blueprint this Sunday 10 March, 11am to 4pm. It’s a typical post-earthquake venue for a unqiue post-earthquake design project.

Some 65 architectural studies students from from CPIT, the University of Auckland, Unitec and Victoria University developed and built their design ideas during Studio Christchurch, a collaborative summer school based at CPIT from 7 January to 1 February 2013.

Studio Christchurch grew from the Christchurch Festival of Transitional Architecture’s opening night, the hugely popular LUXCITY, and is the first of its kind in New Zealand.

Studio Christchurch allows participating students to gain credits towards their qualifications and is designed to share ideas through collaboration while enabling students to play a role in shaping the rebuild.

Studio Christchurch is one of the ways in which CPIT architectural students are contributing to the discussion of the blueprint and the future Christchurch.

Studio Christchurch is at 68 Waltham Road. The exhibition opens Saturday 9 March at 7.30pm is open Sunday 19 March, 11am to 4pm.
